Course Description: Organizations take on strategic initiatives to stay relevant in a rapidly changing business environment. Yet, majority of these initiatives fail. Change management, a discipline that primarily focuses on the “people side of change”, has emerged as an integral methodology for ensuring project success. An emergent body of research shows a strong connection between effective project delivery and the people’s ability to adopt a desired behavior and mindset. By understanding the fundamentals of organizational change management and the science behind it, you can efficiently integrate change management principles into your projects and position your organization for a long-term sustained benefits realization. In this application-based course, you will learn a) a framework for managing change initiatives; b) strategies for integrating change and project management practices; c) tools for measuring and evaluating effectiveness of change initiatives; and d) critical leadership skills for managing people through change.

Course Objective: In this course, you will learn change management fundamentals, strategies for an effective integration of change and project management disciplines, and tools to assess and evaluate organizational change readiness and effectiveness. You will also understand the science behind individuals’ desire for and resistance to change and gain skills to effectively coach your team through change initiatives.

Instructor: Yuliya Cannon, Ph.D., PMP, NCC, Prosci Certified Change Manager

Yuliya Cannon, Ph.D., PMP, NCC, Prosci is an expert in human behavior, organizational change management, program development and evaluation.  Applying the knowledge of a structured change management methodology and project management, Dr. Cannon has been helping government and commercial organizations understand, plan for, and manage change initiatives in order to achieve specific business outcomes and realize sustained benefits.  Dr. Cannon is an adjunct professor of counseling at the University of Texas at San Antonio where she teaches doctoral and master’s level courses. She is passionate about counseling and research and uses her skills teaching doctoral and master’s level students at the University of Texas at San Antonio and assisting a local VA clinic with their program development and research initiatives. Dr. Cannon’s academic research interests include mentoring, professional development, and productivity.
