But who is our chief course creator? The answer is simple: Mike Carnell, co-creator of Six Sigma at Motorola in 1982.
From Motorola, Mike went to Allied Signal, and then General Electric under Jack Welch, which really brought Six Sigma to the forefront.
But what is Six Sigma? Six Sigma is what PMI® essentially refers to as "Quality Management." At the end of the day there's one persons judgment that means the most to anyone, their own. Learning the finer details of quality analytics is one of the most empowering endeavors one might pursue. Six Sigma literally means "six standard deviations from the mean average" or 3.4 dpmo (defects per million outputs). So, imagine you work at a winery that ferments 1,000,000 grapes per month. If Six Sigma tools (ex: Pareto Chart Historgrams, control charts, matrix diagrams, quality assurance vs. quality control, ANOVA (analysis of variance), etc) were properly used, then only 3.4 grapes out of the 1,000,000 used that month, would fail to meet the customers expectations. That's a pretty impressive number! And that must be some pretty impressive wine!
